  • ANIMATION PRESET: Identifying or copying from other Projects?

This is so stupid I feel, well, stupid.

I applied an animation preset that I thought was particularly nice. However I can’t remember the name of the preset and when I look at the old project that contains the text with the preset, there seems to be no way of identifying which preset has been applied to a specific text layer.

Is there a way to somehow figure this out? I don’t suppose I can import a text layer from one project to another project can I? For example, in FCP I can open as many projects as I like and share sequences or clips at will. Is there no way to do this in AE? Very frustrating.

And while we’re at it, if I apply a shatter effect to a video layer and I want the layer to shatter at the end, how do I get the effect to move off the head of the clip and move futher down the timeline? This is probably so obvious. I was going through the AE Total Training and this does not seem to be mentioned. It’s so basic yet soooooooo frustrating.

    Thanks in advance.

You can import a previous AE PROJECT into your current project…then you can copy the text layer and paste it into a new Comp….

Currently, the only way to share between projects is to import one project into another.

    1. Save the project. Consider saving a backup too.
    2. Save As under a new name. (“text_preset.aep”?)
    3. Delete everything except the text layer. Save.
    4. Open the original project, then import the “text_preset.aep” project.
    5. Copy/paste the text layer into the appropriate comp.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

That you very much. That did the job. I’d still like to know what preset I used. Seems odd to have to import an old preject every time I would like to use this effect. I suppose I should have written it down.

    Thanks again.

Couldn’t you just use the text layer to create a new preset?

re: Shatter – keep the Force 1 Radius keyframed to zero until the frame where you want the shatter to begin.
