i need to make an animation that is stretched over two tv monitors. the hardware issue is taken care of. the question i have is as to the proper pixel ratio.
am i correct if i just double the original pal to 1440×576 with a pixel ratio of 8:3 in the respective settings?thanx

August 27, 2007 at 9:46 pmare you using two synchronised DVDs to play from? and then just splitting the video in half?
And are they widescreen TVs? If so, I’d just use the AE widescreen preset and change the width to 1440 … then when you render out you can use the output module to crop it in half. -

August 27, 2007 at 11:56 pmwhat are you expected to deliver? media file on a hardrive or a standard dvd, 2 dvds?
if it is one dvd that the hardware is stretching over two monitors, then ultimately you will be working in a standard pal preset. you can work in a double wide comp, but then drop it into a standard preset and scale width to fit for the final render.
if it is two dvds, then spliting the double wide comp into 2 standard comps for final render, as mentioned, would be good way to go.
if it is a file on a hard drive, then you’ll want to know more about the hardware and the data rates taht they can playback. you could work with a standard pal par, but it will depend on their set up.

the animation will be delivered on a single DVD, playable on a notebook. as to the procedure you’re proposing: could you try to explain this bit again:
“….you can work in a double wide comp, but then drop it into a standard preset and scale width to fit for the final render….”
the comp i am working with has 1440×576 pixels. are you saying that i have to standardize it back to 720×576 for the final render. sorry for being a little slow here – but i do not really understand this strategy ( i am sute i am misunderstanding something).
if i am working with a single DVD delivery, the animation needs be 1440x576px – right?
thanx for your patience

August 28, 2007 at 1:36 pmi believe a pal dvd will need to be 720×576 with a 1.07 par or a 1.42 par (for widescreen). i don’t think any player would be able to play a dvd that was not 720×576 (if you can even create one). so you will need to make yours conform to that standard, and the ‘player’ (or extra hardware) will expand it back out to fill two screens.
so working with your 1440×576 comp is a good way to go, but then you will need to take it (or a render of it) and drop it into a standard pal preset, but scaling the width to fit the standard pal comp. it will look squeezed, but the extra hardware on the play out side should stretch it back out and make it look normal.
you can create a 720×576 comp with a custom par, but you will need to write a script to do so, i don’t know anyway to choose any other par but the preset ones in ae. i also don’t know how a player might react if it saw a non-standard par dvd.
