hi, i’m making an animation short film (using Toon Boom), the destination of the film is TV and festivals.
for alpha channel requirement as well as quality purpose for rendering mainly vector type images, i have chosen Animation and Animation+ for outputting my quicktimes.
my idea was to make in FCP a small version for editing purposes, then to make an online version in a bigger version.
i made my animation using a 4/3 ratio so at first i started outputting at 2048/1536 and then making a smaller version using Compressor (in DV PAL format) – now i realize it’s not going to be easy to output a quality tape for festivals from this ratio, or is it?

so now, i’m thinking of changing slightly my framing in my animation, and modify it to the popular 16/9. should i for this purpose make the quicktimes in 1920/1080?

what exact sequence settings should i use in FCP both for an offline version and an online version?
    thx a lot – pierre

why are you making a “smaller version”?

Does you computer choke up. Wow haven’t done an “offline” edit in over 7 years.

I think you should for sure go to the 16/9 route, not sure about the 1920/1080, as I rarely go over 720p 1280×720.

How are you delivering? tape, dvd, file?

This may help dictate what you need to use.

well.. yes, my computer did choke up when i was using 2036/1536 with 7 layers of Animation+ files.
i will deliver most likely on tape (dvd for submissions of course) – that’s why i was asking about the FCP settings etc.
if i go for 1920/1080 i guess i’ll just make a “small version” half the size with same settings otherwise.
it’s better for me to output from my animation software as big as possible and to import into FCP likewise, in order to maintain, as much as possible, the fluidity of the vector lines.
    thx again – pierre
