OK, it actually seems fairly simple – but I have to admit it happens so quickly, and there are no controls to make it rewind — that this is all based on a quick glance.
Part of this was probably done in a 3D app, but I think you can get comperable results in 2D. A particle system was used to generate the grid of logos that at first stay still but then move out into Z space towards the camera.
The partcles were used as a matte for the original footage – so basically, they probably had a setup like this:
1. Footage
2. Particles
3. Particles
4. Footage
So, they had the full footage on top, below that, the particles, below that a nother copy of the particles, and below that, a duplicate of the footage.
The bottom footage (4) uses the particles (3) as an alpha map. The top particle (2) had an opacity of 0 to start.
They did a linear wipe of the top footage, to reveal the particle matted footage (3,4) below it. as the particles moved towards the camera they faded on the top particles so that the color of the particles appears to change from the footage colors to the blue particles.
Alternatively, they may have actually done a linear wipe on of the blue particles so that it fades from footage colors to blue from left to right. Nothing personal, but I watched this twice, and without player controls, I don’t feel like watching it a 3rd time to be sure.
Hope it helps.
