  • Animation Codec for import to vegas?

I posted this question a while ago and John R had the excellent suggestion of using the quicktime Animation Codec. It is very a very sharp image and Vegas seems to handle it just fine.
I am animating in Carrara Pro 8. I would like to use the 64 bit version but Quicktime doesn’t seem to have a true 64 bit codec for windows.
In any even it does not seem to be available in Carrara Pro 64 bit (it still works in the 32 bit version)
This issue has caused me a couple of problems, so I would like to look at other options. What is the next best ” Windows Native ” export option?
I am doing HD 1920×180 2 minute segments, so the files are large. My last export using the quicktime animation codec ran 1.9 gig for a 1 minute 22 sec clip. My main goals are Chrisp image which Vegas can handle like a champ. My computer is i7 2600 3.4 gighz with 8 gig ram.
Carrara seems to have a reasonable selection of codec’s to choose from.
    Thanks
    Brad

Can you output as a series of still images?
I get animation files and ask for them in TGA or PNG format (for alpha channel support).
Make sure they’re all in the same folder and properly sequentially numbered.
Then use the “import still image sequence” feature to bring them into Vegas as a single file.

I can do that. Does a folder import act as a single clip in vegas? I would have to resync the audio not a big deal but one more thing to keep track of. Does it bog vegas down? This video is about 1 hour, maybe 40% HD animation. are the folder sizes going to get just insane?

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot.

[Brad Leigh] “Does a folder import act as a single clip in vegas?”

Yes it does and here’s the procedure.
File – Import – Media, browse to the folder where the images are, click on the first one in the sequence, click “Open still image sequence” at the bottom of this window, click Open, make any necessary adjustments in the tab that comes up and click OK.
The sequence will now be sitting in your Project Media waiting to be added to the timeline.

    “Does it bog vegas down?”

    Not that I’ve noticed.

“are the folder sizes going to get just insane?”

Odds are that doing it this way will be smaller than making it into an AVI or MOV file.
All I have at home for a reference is an SD project (300 TGA images) and it’s 40 MB. in size.
