Animation and editing
Hey there everyone,
Here’s my problem:
I have a video to edit that will use CGI quicktime MOVs rendered using Animation Codec (1280×960 30fps).
My final product wil have to be a QT with the same specifications.
What is the best way to do this?
I was thinking in converting the Animation Movs, editing and then substituting them in the “capture” folder before exporting, if that’s a good idea, which coded should I convert the original files to?
Any better suggestions in what to do?

1280×960 is a very strange size.
How do you intend to deliver your movie?

Well, I have to deliver a QT, codec animation and 1280×960 30fps, that is; the same specifications as the original files.
This file will be converted for web and TV use but my client wants the Best Res they have for master.What would you do?

Hi lucas,
If you have to finish with that size, edit in that size.
Drop your animation to any sequence and conform the sequence to the clip.
Be careful with the field order. FC probably will interpret your animations as Upper first.
When you have your sequence ready I think you should change the codec to ProRess and edit in that codec. I think you will have more RT than with Animation.

but when I do that it asks for render in every file.
I was thinking of converting the files to PhotoJpeg but with the same size and frame rate.
Then, after all is done, I substitute de converted files with the original ones.I will test that option and write my “discoveries” here.

Well,
I converted one file as a test to various formats,
the best option I think will be work in H264 and then do the substitution.
I really hope it will work.I’ll keep this thread posted with the follow up.

Hi Lucas,
H264 is very risky option if you intend to bring it to FC.
Is not an editing codec and there are too may reports of crashes.
I would try something more classic, DV or so.

Wasn’t aware…Well, what you think about AIC?
I converted to ProRes too but it gave me a huge file,
as long as I have to do this I think it’s better to convert them to small ones right?
It’s only for “off-line” anyway.
AIC gave me a good size.Original Animation file 460mb
AIC 50mb
H264 11mb
Jpeg100 160mb
ProRes 130mbWill try the DV now.
