  • Animation alpha from AE doesn’t playback well

    Hey everybody,

I shot green screen interviews. Keyed in AE, exported in Animation+
Imported in PR, created a new sequence with it. It starts to play well but then after 10s it gets all jittery.
I tried to change settings of sequence in Animation, because by default it gives me an AVCHD settings, but it didn’t work.

I tried to import my Animation+ file in FCP, works like a charm. It plays it fluently.

Is it because PR doesn’t give a shit about Quicktime Animation ?

    Thanks all !

If you check the file size, you’ll find that Animation+ output, though high quality, is huge! It’s likely that your system (4GB of RAM is pretty weak for any Adobe software) just isn’t doing the job, not Premiere Pro…just set your playback resolution a bit lower.

FCP automatically dumbs down your playback for smooth viewing – it’s not doing anything PPro can’t do.

Jumping off what Joseph said, it might also be your hard drive that you’re playing it from. To playback Animation encoded mov’s takes a pretty stout disk array due to its data rate. A single 7200RPM drive ain’t gonna cut it (especially if you’re using your boot drive as the media drive).

As mentioned FCP is probably dynamically dumbing it down to try and play it smoothly. You can do the same in PPro, you just have to set it yourself.

You really should not create a new sequence with the Animation codec, that will be too hard on your system.

Better to use a sequence codec you use in your normal post workflow and render the file out in that sequence. This is a better way to deal with playback unless you have a monster system with tons of throughput.

    Hey,

First, thanks to all for the quick reply, you guys are great.

I guess I should not work with Animation codec.
I guess I should also get more RAM and a bigger processor.
Having my config in mind, where do you think I should first put money on for better performance ?

What is your workflow when you’re dealing keying with PR and AE ?

    Thanks a lot

    Mat
