  • Animatingwater w/o MoGraph – Please HELP!

Posted by Donna Arbogast on February 22, 2010 at 8:52 pm

I have to complete a “How it Works” animation for a solar pool heater. I’ve searched the web for tutorials on how to animate the water, but they all require MoGraph, which I do not have.

PLEASE HELP!! I’ve attached a sketch of my artwork & What I need the water to do, but just to be clear:

1 – The cold water flows up the pipes on rt
2 – The water fans out through the panel array getting hooter as it goes along. I have to change the color of the water from blue to red to convey heat
3 – The heated water returns to the pool.

Sounds easy, but can’t figure it out!

I would just do it with a sweep nurbs that gets aniamted. Then apply a nice water texture to it (bump and displacment.
It you need a little running water. You can do this with a simple emitter and a gravity effector. THen you add a motion blur tag and set it to vector blur.

Ok. I finally got a Sweep Nurbs to work, have my water texture applied – now how do I animate it? I tried animating just the points on an object before by adding key frames & moving the points. It didn’t work. The object through out the animation was altered.

I’m still learning the program, so I’m probably missing something simple.

    Thank you for your help.

In the sweep nurns attributes there is END GROWTH it is default to 100%. THats what you want to animate.
I made a five minute tutorial on how i would set it up including a user data slider incase you have several thing you want to control.
