    Hi people,

I’m animating text over the course of a second so that one word scrambles then forms another word, stays that way for five seconds, then scambles again and forms another word – and so on.

It is fine and works a treat, except when the first word has a smaller number of characters than the next. Then as soon as it hits the source text keyframe it will jump from say, 3 letters to 12. For your info the source text keyframe sits halfway between the start keyframes which scramble the words.

Does anyone know what I need to adjust to get the letters to increase from 3 to 12 (or any number) over time as they scramble?

Any help greatly appreciated as always folks!!
    Many thanks
    G

You can’t really go from nothing to something. Put a few underscore characters or any other character that will suit your needs to sort of fill in the blanks.

Then use either Scale or Opacity OR a combination of the two to get things going. To make things look smoother, you may need another Animator or simply add a Selection Range using these two properties.

Chances are that you will require another Animator to control these two parameters.

    Cheers

Yeah I might have to bite the bullet and compromise on this one.

The style of the piece doesn’t really fit fades – hance the jumbling, random effect I’m using. I’m positive there must be a way to tell AE that it is jumbling say, 3 letters at frame 0 and 12 letters at frame 25. Just can’t figure out how!!

Tried adding spaces at end, but it still jumps at the source text keyframe. Oh well.

    Thanks for your help Roland
