  • Animating Pie Chart with only Stroke and no Fill

Posted by Drew Davis on August 24, 2018 at 12:16 pm

    Hey,

I need to animate a pie chart like this https://ibb.co/fN0NNp

If there was a fill in each section, I know how to do it. But having empty shapes with just a stroke is puzzling me. I need each section to change its value and move around.

Any ideas on how I can animate this?

One way to get strokes only is to copy the layer, choke the shapes by a couple of pixels (add a white stroke effect, use minimax or some such method) and use the result as a track matte to cut out the insides.

I’m not sure what you’re doing but have you tried Shape Layers?
You can control fill and stroke separately with that.

Thank you Kalleheikki – I used a mix of that and keyed a section and it’s worked.

Hi Eric, yeah it’s all shape layers but controlling stroke within a shape layer doesn’t help/work when using Radial Wipe.

Aah you want the shapes to change with data as well.
I’ve done something crazy in Maya using animated Booleans and Set driven keys.
You know it was dumb when your target was PowerPoint 😛
But it was still fun 🙂
