I have very little experience with AE and I have only useed it for masking.
Is Ae the program to make cool effects on logos? (like breaking through black background to revel logo etc)
Or should I try finding a 3d program for things like that?
I work on a Mac G5 with AE 6.5 if AE is not the weapon of choice? I am open for sugestions on programs but not to expencive.

It depends. If you want the logo to look “3D” with depth, you can buy Zaxwerks Invigorator. If you need the whole thing to have depth, you might need a “real” 3D application. If you don’t need depth in the objects, you can use AE.

If you like the Xbox ripping thing, you’d need a 3D app for that because that background has thickness and it rips in three dimensions.

Do you have an link to an example?
