I have footage that animates on using an animated mask. While the footage is on screen, I want to animate it WITHIN the mask. I know you’re supposed to use the pan behind tool, but when I do, it creates another keyframe for the mask and the mask itself moves too. I tried creating a second mask and just using that to animate the footage, but it still creates a new keyframe for the first mask even when I lock it. Is there asimple way to do this and maybe I’m missing it? Thanks.

Break down the workflow into two comps. In the first comp, perform your pan/movement on the layer. Then nest that into another comp. Now draw your mask and all should be fine. Another method is to use the Stencil and a single comp. Do your pans and then create a stencil layer on top of the panned layer. Lots of other ways but these should work well for you.

Thanks Roland. Yeah, I guess I should’ve thought outside the box. I just wanted a simpler way of doing it all in one comp I guess. Thanks again,
