My goal is to create a video that shows an illustration being drawn, stroke by stroke. The strokes will be animated as if they are being drawn. I’d prefer to have vector-based images so that I can scale them in Premiere later. Does anyone know how I can do this?

Some ideas I had but don’t know how to execute:
    – use Illustrator to draw vector images. import to AE. each stroke will be accessible in AE. figure out how to make the stroke appear along its path. Is there a way to do this without putting each stroke on a different layer when drawing?
    – use Flash… somehow.
    – just paint in an AE composition. This way, I’ll have each ‘Paint’ path available to me right away. Downside: AE doesn’t have the artistic palette of AI.

Can anyone expand on these methods, or does anyone have other ideas?
    Thanks.
