  animating character value- foreign language to english

  I’m trying to animate a line of characters to appear as though they are being translated into english- I’ve played a bit with character offset and value animators and haven’t found the way to make this happen simply. I would animate a mask, but don’t want to be in key-frame ville with the image if I don’t have to. Is there a simpler way to slate another text layer to the foreign one to make it appear that it is translating into english?
