  • Animating cartoon character mouth (but not lip sync)

This is an animation of a moving mouth, but it is not meant to be synchronized with what the character is saying. All I’m trying to do is make the lips flap randomly when the character’s voice is heard.

I drew five pictures, one with the mouth closed, two where the mouth is open a little, and two where the mouth is open wider.

I have tried animating the lips when the character’s voice is heard, but I don’t animate then in the same order over and over again. Maybe it’s 2-3-4-5, then 5-4-3-2, then 2-4-5, 5-3-2, and so on. Just so it doesn’t look like the same cycle is being played over and over again.

I did this with Opacity keyframes, all Hold Keyframes, switching them from 0 to 100%, and it took a long time.

Can someone suggest a way that I can play some random lip-flapping whenever a character’s voice is heard, and streamline the whole process?
