    Hey everyone,

Basically I have bluescreen footage of a ship flying, I’m importing it on a star field I made, changing the position and following it with a camera.

The problem is, I’m having trouble making the star background look realistic. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve it? Is there any filter in After effects that can generate star fields, or would you guys just suggest photographing one?

    Thanks
    Adam B

Simulation>CC Star Burst is a little hokey at defaults, but is highly tweakable. I like:

    Scatter: up to 1000
    Grid Spacing at 1
    Size: 120

Speed at 0 gives a static starfield in the distance, positive values are stars coming at you and negative are stars receeding (seen from the stern viewing port, Captain).

    Tweak to taste.

Wow, that’s exactly what I’m looking for.

I added a directional blur to the stars too as the camera moves, any other advice to make it look more realistic?

You might want to look at Trapcode Particular, a 3D particle generator. There are a couple presets for generating starfields that work in AE’s 3D space. You can find out more at Trapcode’s website – http://www.trapcode.com
