  • Animating a plane into a sphere.

For some reason, I’m having a lot of trouble with this one. Here’s ideally what I’d like to do:

I’m trying to show a visualization of a Dyson Sphere (a giant sphere of land tiles that surrounds the sun). I have my model of the solar system built, along with the plane and land mass tiles. What I cant do is get that plane to expand and wrap around the sun to form the completed sphere. Part of what needs to happen too is the plane needs to start off very small, smaller than the earth, with only a few tiles and as it expands the tiles stay the same size but increase in number as it surrounds the sun.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

here’s a simple trial. Wrap deformer wrapping a cloner (could be a Fracture if you have a lot of prebuilt tiles) into sphere.

    Thanks Brian,

    I’ll give it a shot!

    This is great.
Is there a way to change the interaction?
Id like the sphere to collide head on with the plane – rather than wrapping itself round from one end. I’d like the plane to wrap round the sphere from both sides simultaneously – starting from the planes centre. Like a ball falling into fabric, but without the fabric effects.
    Thanks,
    J
