animating a music note
Hello,
I discovered the powers of after effects quite recently. Now I’m stuck with a bit of a problem: I’m making a portrait about a jazz singer. In the beginning of the film I’m using some ambient shots of the city she lives accompanied by her music. In these shots I want to use an animated music note that flies around the images and eventually ends up at her appartment. Now the problem is that my music note animation looks kinda cheap and unrealistic.
I made a layer in photoshop cutting out the music note. Then I imported the note and the images in a after effects 3D project. I gave the note a path along the 3 different axes. tried some other effects but still I’m not happy with the result. Do you guys know what I can do best ?

How about making the note in a 3d application – Blender is free – then rendering out the sequence and importing it into AE. Then you could duplicate the footage above the note and maybe use the Screen transfer mode to make it look like light is hitting the flying note.
Or a simple motion blur on the note you have may make a world of difference.

Make the note a 3D layer and add a spotlight, this will give it some depth. Also rotate the note on the X , Y & Z as it moves around. Mask off some areas as the note flies through to give the appearance that it’s flying behind some objects. And make SURE you enable Motion Blur for the layer.
