Hi, I have a amateur amount of experience with 3D modeling (3DS Max, mainly, but I’m not an expert yet, youtube is still helping me with that one.), and I was wondering today, I recently downloaded a 3D model of a character that I wanted to import into after effects, however I was a bit lazy today and I wanted to know if I could pose his arms and legs in after effects instead of 3DS Max. Reason being was because I didn’t want to animate it in 3DS Max only to find out I messed up after importing in after effects, and have to go back to change the animations again.

Well part of the issue is that after effects is not natively a 3d program, it is 2.5d. So in order to really animate a 3d character you need to have a 3d emulator like element 3d. If you use element, you should be able to set null objects for each limb, but I don’t think it will be nearly as intuitive than animating it in an actual 3d application.
