animated vector paint
Hello,
I’m researching the best ways to animate drawing from a live action source, similar to Waking Life. I hear Rotoshop was used for this feature that only every 5 frames are painted over and the rest are tweened finding the edges. This programe is not commercialy available, but i hear vector paint in AE5.5 does something similar?
Are there any tutorials or tips as to how i can trace live action with vector shapes without having to do it all frame by frame, or will i be better of learning a application like combustion 3?
I very much hope someone can help.

hy there .. on my first post,
well .. i have a problem that is around the same issue .. i’ve done 4 projects uptill now with this tehnique of drowin over the footage
in after effects with vector paint .. you can see an example here : http://www.dreamrec.com/tomy.movthe ideea is .. after 100 frames, the project will count around 35000 strokes, and on my dual xeon 3.0 / 2gb ram it will take 7-9 minutes
to save the project , and after this i have to colorize the character and i’m using paintbucket for this … and to fill all the gaps
i end up with 15-20 instances of the effect each one being keyframed for position quite often ..to make it “easier” now i’m just drowing over in vector paint, and the colorizing is done in photoshop (the only problem is that i lose
the easier way to select certain parts and modify ..)my question is .. is it simpler to do this in other app like combustion or flash .. ?
i’m going mad now .. because with this tehnique i’ve managed to impress some client, and a new project is coming with “only” 2000 frames to drow
over and colorize ( a character that has a t-shirt with stripes !!).thank-you !! and i hope somebody will give me the right hint !
