    Hi,

As we all know, when one animates/zooms in on still images in FCP, it often
renders with interlacing/strobing lines, particularly when working in a DV codec.

I was wondering if there would be an improvement by animating/zooming the stills in After Effects, and then exporting as an Animation or DV codec, and then using those images in FCP.

Would one still get the strobing effect?
And if so, would it be the same, or better than if created in FCP.

    Thanks in advance,

    Wayne

    Wayne,

After Effects does a good job, but there’s no reason you can’t do a great job in FCP. Animate in FCP as usual and add the Directional Blur Filter set to 0-degrees and with a value of 1 or 2.

“Strobing” is not limited to or caused by the DV codec. It can make it worse, but the cause is often fine lines or details which flicker due to interlacing and movement. David’s advice is good, but also important is optimizing your images in Photoshop, described in great detail here in the archives.

    Have a wonderful day.
