  • Animated Metaball Object Needs Matrix Object to Generate Objects to Entire Surface Of Metaball object

I created an animated blob like monster made from an animated METABALL OBJECT that I want to have balls cover the entire surface of the blob guy, but I’m having issues.

When I used the Cloner object and use the Metaball object as the surface, it puts the ball object cover the entire surface of the Metaball object, but since the metaball surface animates, I find the balls on the surface to be extremely jittery. I then tried another option, the Matrix Object. Now when I use that, using the Metaball object as the defined object ,it works perfectly, but it only has the “Matrices Only” option making squares all over the surface. now I know the other option is Thinking Particles but I have no clue how to make the “matrice only” squares change into my spheres that I want to be on the surface, and I haven’t the slightest as to go about the Thinking Particle option route.

    Thanks for any help!

A Matrix Object set to Thinking Particles is already making particles so you just need to add a Particle Geometry object and put in an Xpresso tag with a PPass node that passes to a PShape node which links to your sphere. It won’t render correctly unless you start at the beginning. In my quick test here it leaves stray particles at various points and I don’t see any difference between the motion of a sphere in a Cloner set to Object or the Matrix set to Object but my quick Metaball may not be complex enough to replicate your problems. …Or I’m missing something obvious…

Thanks so much for your response, it helped me realize what I was doing wrong here.
To generate some kind of randomness in the size and rotation to the object I wanted cloned all over the metaball object (it’s more of a blob than a sphere I wanted all over the surface of the object), i added a Random Effector, but didn’t realize that the Random Effector randomizes the spheres movement over time, thus creating the random movement. IS there a way to add the random effector that effects the objects on the surface once and doesn’t randomize it each frame but just adds an initial randomness to the position, rotation, size but doesn’t keep generating more random positions throughout the animation?

Shader effector? Don’t think so I’m not getting it in testing… somebody?
