Animated Light Painting
Posted by Derek Nickell on February 16, 2012 at 3:11 amI am trying to re-create this “animated” light painting effect, either in post or practically on set. The effect is within the first 29secs of the video.

February 16, 2012 at 9:39 amI looked at that tutorial about 2 years ago. This is something different. The reflections can’t be made in AE like that.
I was thinking this might be 3D’d in Maya and then light streaks added with specular highlights from the car and surrounding objects.

February 16, 2012 at 1:00 pmFrom what I see, the reflections come from the shape of the car and the lights used in the shoot. It seems that Particular was used to create the light streaks and positioned in such a way that they match the actual reflections.

February 16, 2012 at 1:31 pmI would have a car lit and unlit shot (perhaps more with different sets), light streaks and masking in AE. Those reflections seem far off from the light that was supposed to be emitted from those streaks anyway.

February 16, 2012 at 5:27 pmThat’s what I was initially thinking as well. But how could it mesh so seamlessly and flow like that?

February 16, 2012 at 5:44 pmAfter composing all photos you can do time remaping.
I think they did that flow because of slowed video.
