I am currently working on a project in which I have to animate a Heads up display for a mechanical mosquito in After effects, it must contain numbers rolling up,moving graphs and lines.etc I need to know the best way to go about this and if anybody knows of any good sites that I can find really good reference.

Nolan, that is a pretty broad concept. Are you planning on tracking a target or targets in the HUD or just relaying things like engine status, position, elevation, speed and the like?

There’s a perfect demo project in Trish and Chris Meyer’s book “AE In Production.” They use lots of doodads to simulate an HUD and many tracking points. Look for chapter 4, AUTO TRACKER. You should be able to easily adapt and modify this project to your needs.

You may also wish to google Heads Up Displays to see examples of fighter and other aircraft HUDs. You also want to look for flight simulation games that include high tech warplanes.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
