    Hello
I was a Combustion user, but now I’m starting with After Effects and I’m trying to animate the letters of a word seperatly, but I don’t see any other way than have to write each letter of the word in a different layer.
Can you tell if there is another way?

It depends on what you want to do. If you enter text with the text tool, you can animate the characters in a lot of different ways. You can’t do everything with the tool, though. For instance, you can’t animate blur letter-by-letter, and you can’t move individual letters in Z-space that way — you have to do those things in other ways.

What do you want to do?

I want to animate the letters in Xs and Ys positions, the letters are moving on the screen till they reach together and forming a word.
    Thanks for your help

Try using the range selector…First make the text layer, open up properties, now you should see animate triangle in your switches/modes panel, click on that and select to animate whatever property you want…now open up your animator1(default name)Now you can see the range selector with Start,End and offset sliders. To animate you letters individually select whatever character you want to animate with your start and end sliders…Animate it with the offset slider. Use multiple animators to do some neat animation…Check out the animation presets, there are some cool effects that you can customize with minimal effort.
    Hope that helps
BTW how is combustion is it comparable to AE as far as the structure?

AE 6.5 comes with a load of text effect presets, some of which do what you’re describing. You can apply them and then disect them to see how it’s done. Or just use them to do what you want, they rock.

In the case of text animation combustion is more easy and fast.

    Thanks for your help
