  • Animate spline / hair growth with fields / falloff in a complex network-setup

    Hi!

I am trying to now for hours to get a seamingly simple thing done:

I have build a complex setup of a spline network. I did apply some hair material to render it. And then I wanted to animate the splines/hairs to start to grow in one area of the “network” and then grow that area until all splines/hairs are at full length within the whole network. I thought using a spherical field for this would lead somewhere.

So here/attached is my base setup:

Now it is important to know that I do NOT want to use particle systems for this (To slow and handling is too difficult with caching etc). And I do not want to use any kind of boolean mesh cutout, as the growth should be naturally growing from segment startpoint to segment endpoint and the growing tip point should be a bitt bigger than the rest of the line.

And here´s what I tried so far:

    – Tried that way to animate the hair: Added a material/texture/shader to the length parameter of the hair material to operate with something similar to a proximal shader. Problem: Whatever texture I add and interaction with falloff objects I tried, the length parameter is allways applied to all hairs. No chance to get some kind of gradient falloff.

    – Tried these tools to animate the splines: Fracture, Mospline, Two states blended in a cloner, timeoffset with keyframe animated clones… Looked for a spline grow plugin… but there´s only one in X-Particles which I do not have.

Does anyone knows a spline-grow plugin that works per segment and has a falloff feature that uses fields?

Or did anyone ever did that kind of thing or knows how to do that?

    Thanks!

    Sascha

Found the solution! Although I did not want to work with X-Particles the xpSplineGrowth modifier is exactly what I am looking for!
