Animate portions of footage
Hey guys.
What I’m trying to do in a nutshell is fly on individual pixels of an LCD screen. First things first I’m making the footage I have look like an LCD screen, so the individual pixels I’m wanting to animate are small circles with black borders around them.
ie.
So if you were to use that as a mask over your footage, you’d get the basic LCD screen. Where I’m stuck is in flying each circle in. I can use the sequence replicator to make the circles on the mask fly in but what I want is for the footage to be baked to each circle so the individual parts of the footage fly in kind of like the image being built circle by circle, instead of having circles mask fly over the footage.
Is there a way to do this in motion easily (not creating hundreds of duplicated layers and animating them individually)? To me it seems like you need an option to be able to set the colour mode of the replicator to footage, which doesn’t seem to be an option. Any other thoughts?

If the animation you want to do can be done using Sequence Replicator, then you can probably get a long way by replicating your circle and setting the “Shape” parameter of the replicator to “Image” and the dropping your footage onto the image well.

Just had to convert my footage to an image sequence first and then it all fell into place. Love the way that there’s always a way to do something!
