I am trying do do some simple animation on some text. My AE CS5 crashed so I am using CS3 at the moment and I don’t have that many plugins for it yet.

Basically I just want some shining / sparks behind the text in a commercial I am working on. Please have a look an example here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlkD7ydEgB4&feature=related

Look at the white shing behind the text: PROTECTING

Thats what I want to achieve but I can’t figure it out! The background and the text is done. I tried with Lens Flare but it didn’t work..

Use a solid with a mask feather out quite far. Use the ‘wiggle’ expression on the Opacity. To get there, highlight the layer, Alt + click on the stopwatch, and then type the expression: wiggle(1,5)
    Experiment with the numbers.
Once you have the look your looking for, duplicate the layer a few times and move them around and off-set their position in the timeline so the flickers are different.

    That should do it.
