I think 720p60 is a sweet spot for sports. Same temporal resolution as 1080i, very close to the same spacial resolution (especially once compression for delivery takes place) and no interlacing artifacts.
As an aside Lance, didn’t your sig used to say Irvine? Have you relocated recently?

Burma!
I don’t think the technology is there yet. It will pop up again in 5 years time. This is the “Laser Disc” 3D era that we’re experiencing now

June 12, 2013 at 11:46 pmI still think you’ll see steady technological development on 3d for niche markets.
Mobile Surgery
Home Inspection (maybe tied to something that can reproduce 3d graphics of the inspected space)
CAD Generators for those zippy 3D printers, etc.
But for entertainment, it’s kinda over.
When only the center 20% of the room both horizontally and vertically can get a truly good “on-axis” 3d experience it’s never going to be a crowd pleasing technology.
But it will live on where it’s truly useful, IMO.

June 13, 2013 at 1:25 amYes moved to downtown Long Beach. You in OC?
And I’ll take 1080i for sports over 720p anyway – just look at the CBS golf and football.

June 13, 2013 at 7:02 amNo, I’m up in LA where I prefer to watch sports in interlace free glory on FOX or ABC/ESPN. 😉
