    Hi everybody,

I have created a multilayer file on AI and I’m trying to bring it into AE and animate it but I’m having problems with the way AE sets each of the layers anchor points. The object is basically a series of 32 little stars, each star with its own layer, arranged in a circle. I want to have them pulsing so I want to animate their scale but the problem is that all the layers have their anchor point set to center of my frame insead of to the center/axis of the star itself. Is there a setting that I should change before I import my AI file so the anchor point and the center attributes remain “locked” to the single object? Or, if that’s not possible, how can I change the anchor point of all my layers on AE?

    Thanks!

    Marcos H.

    P.S. I’m using AE 6.5 and AI CS1

When you import the AI file as Composition – Cropped Layers each layer will have it’s anchor point centred in AE as Dave but Dave I’m not sure what you mean when you says the positions will be messed up. The position of the objects should remain exactly as they appear in AI. Keep in mind however, that problems can occur later if you add or move layers in AI and didn’t set up a crop area in your original file. This can cause your original AI layers to shift in AE and will mess up your animation. So when importing as Composition – Cropped Layers, it’s best to always set a crop area.

Thanks a lot, John! The cropped layers suggestion did the trick!

    Hi there John,

I have been having a similar issue with all layers from an Illustrator file aligning themselves on a central anchor point in an AE comp… with the ‘After Effect’ being a messed up comp 🙁

I still have some hair left following unsuccessful attempts to fix the issue so I am hoping your observation about setting a crop area in the Illustrator sorts the problem and saves the rest of my hair 🙂

    Cheers

    Steve
