Anamorphic to Letterbox (SD) in Compressor
Hi all,
I figured I’d post this just in case anyone has been looking for a similar solution. I’ve been under the impression for several years that if you had an Anamorphic SD sequence in FCP you couldn’t get it to a letterbox format in compressor. I’ve always created a separate sequence at 4:3 aspect and dropped my anamorphic sequence into it.
I have always felt that this process takes much longer than compression in Compressor itself, and so I kept at it and think I have a good solution.
I’ve found that the key setting for resizing a clip’s content area in the Inspector (in Compressor) is the Output Image Inset – which isn’t all that intuitive sounding, but it seemed to do the trick. I took a letterboxed SD clip I had and measured the height – it’s 360 high and 720 wide. So this means that the difference in pixels is 120. I entered 60 into the “Top” field and 60 into the “Bottom” field, and that seemed to do the trick (keeping the Frame size at 720×480 and the Pixel Aspect at NTSC DV.
I’d assume there’s a similar technique for getting HD to SD letterbox too…
Hope that might help someone!
