I know this has been adressed many times, but we have not been able to resolve the problem.
we have 3 decklink extreme systems in dual G5 systems, currently all the latest software & operating systems (FCP studio etc)
ALL 3 systems cannot be used with the analog composite inputs due to “interference” “scrolling vertical bars” etc.
we used to not have the problem at all, but somewhere along the line in the last year, due to some update, the problem apeared on all the systems
All the G5s have NVidia cards which are not supposed to cause the “shielding problem”
as it is the only way we can get a clean analog input is to route the signal through our digibeta, and capture sdi from the digibeta
this is really lame since the same systems did not used to have the problem
the 3 cards were purchased at different times over a couple of years so its a persistent problem
one odd thing we noticed is on one system, we did not have enough sync outputs from our generator, so we used one of the bars outputs to sync the decklink card – which should be fine, and does work fine when the system is in sdi. but when the system is set to analog input, you can actually see the bars faintly “leaking” through into picture. I think this might be where the problem lies. is it possible that the sync inputs of the cards are not properly shielded or something?
moving cards around, putting other cards between the deckling and the AGP card have not solved anything.
I can’t be the only one having this problem

btw this is an input problem
the interference is recorded in to the captures

I posted politely and sent email to US support and was flamed
will forward you reply if you like

Shouldn’t you put “BLACK” into the reference input of the decklink?
I see all sort of weird things in a lot of machines if I put colorbars as reference-in…

A typical novice mistake is to use something other than BLACK as a blackburst into a sync input. These inputs are designed for blackburst input and most do not work well if you put in something other than blackburst.

Since you speculated that color bars might be a problem, did you simply just try using blackburst?

yes if you read my post, you will see that bars was tried on only one of the systems
the results were posted as a diagnostic note
and it does provide sync when using the system in sdi

it is otherwise irrelavent to the problem
all the systems are having the problem when receiving a true sync feed from the grass valley generator

and again these systems did not have the problem previously – the only thing that has changed in the facility is software updates

    Paul

Ground loops and noisy/dirty power can cause this sort of thing to. You might want to try one computer with monitor by itself (no sync gen) with one analog vtr feeding the BM card and no other connections. The computer/monitor/vtr should be all powered from the same power bar and no UPS. If it goes away gradually restore your other power and video connections to try and identify the source of the problem.

    wow, an actual constructive reply
    thank you shane!
I suppose power in our whole building could have gone bad, thus affecting all systems.
all systems do have UPS, but I guess that’s not a power conditioner…
I tried something similar a while back, but I think I still had reference feeding the card.
I will try and post results
