Is there a way to monitor incoming audio through the computer speakers when Audio capture is set to come through the Decklink? Must I use the Decklink outputs?

    Thanks.

YES. You must monitor the Decklink output. If you continue to use the internal speakers of the MAC, I will have to kill you. (of course, if you do not mind being out of sync with your video, go right ahead and use your internal MAC speaker – besides, that 1″ speaker in the MAC sounds REALLY good). I don’t know what Decklink card you have – some only have SPDIF outputs, and some have analog outputs. At $59 US for a set of Behringer MS-16 powered speakers, if you simply refrain from that one hit of crack for the afternoon, you can afford to get these. If you only have the SPDIF output, I just saw the Edirol’s on sale for Christmas for $99, and these have the SPDIF input.

    Ha ha ha! 🙂

I was actually after using some analogue monitors to monitor through XLR, but once I factored in the cost of all the conversion that would be needed I started looking at SPDIF monitors and whilst the Edirols look useable, for a little more Behringer make some good ones (by the look of them..) MS40’s I think…and Roland do the DS5’s for about

Thanks for the replies. Normally I monitor through the onboard computer audio. I generally work with scratch tracks and it has been fine. I wanted to be capture through the decklink and monitor through the pc on board audio. What I did was used the XLR outputs and hooked them up through my monitor so that is working for the time being. I’ll look in to those speakers but I ain’t giving up my afternoon crack hit!

Speaking of prison Mr. Wargo, aren’t you down the road from that prison on the way to Tucson, Arizona, right near that ostridge farm ? I went to pet those ostridges, and they almost killed me.

Here is a great picture of that farm, where the sign says “not responsible for accidents” –
