  • An OK system for HDV? i7 2.66gig or Core 2 3.33 gig?

Would this system edit HDV? I need to buy something soon and I want to keep it under 2k. I’m looking at ibuypower stuff but it’s a lot more money for a Core 2 processor.

    Is 4x 2.66 i7 enough or would Core 2 3.33gig be better?
Anybody know of a good source for CS4 compatible chipsets and hardware? It seems to be VERY finnickey.

I’m on an i7-940 with 12 gig ram (custom made),Vista 64 and Production Premium CS4 works like a charm.
Edits HDV like butter. Tried some avchd: very smooth. So do my Cineform avi’s.

I don’t know much about how Radeons run relative to NVIDIA display cards. I’ve been running NVIDIA since PPro 1.5.

I know that Macs are more likely to have Radeons in them…CS4 seems to run fine with them.

I’d load it with RAM…as much as you can afford.

I read good things about the ATI 4000 series and says they’re comparable to nVidia although I have had issues with ATI in the past.

Reason I’m grabbing this is because it’s through Costco and if I can’t get it to work in 90 days back it goes.

Ann, I think the 940 i7 clocks at 3gig so quite a bit better than this 2.66 but this will be sort of a starter system for me.

    Love the COW!

Thanks very much for all the great help.
