I am having real problems with Sony Vegas Pro 8 and I think part of the problem could be the fact i use mp4 files recorded on my SAnyo Xacti cg10

Basically whenever i open my project there is always a few (sometimes a lot) video clips that say media offline and i get the instant message saying specify a replacement file.

The rare occasions everything is “online” i cannot open any more files from my external hard drive as it says the error message in the title.

I have a 2.9gb ram with 32 bit operating system and vista.

I am alsohaving problems rendering as it either freezes at 5% or says an error message about removing smoe applications due to high computer activity, which i did. (i tried WMV, MainConcept, MOV- i find AVI is far too big file size)

I would convert the files from that camera to MJPEG with a tool like AviDemux. These files should edit and render smoothly without any problems. If you think AVI files are too big, buy a larger hard drive… video is big and the more you compress it to make it smaller the more problems you will have editing it.

okay thanks for help i will try and download that

yes i have just always prefered wmv though but i do have 250gb hd so its fine.

Its weird because when i start a new project in vegas the video files that arent opening in my project, open fine, then when i start copying the files over it eventually goes funny and offline

WMV is a horrible format to edit and Vegas doesn’t do well with it. It’s really a delivery format.

Yes, any highly compressed interframe format will be difficult to edit. That’s why I suggested transcoding to MJPEG which uses much lighter itraframe compression.
