    OK
I am running Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 10.
I’m sure you guys are tired of the I don’t have money question, maybe you can help me decide between two approaches. I am editing HDV footage on my Intel core Duo 1.4 ghz which works ok for me. My current camera is a HDR FX-1 I need to do a two camera shoot for a technical video, so I don’t need a great match with cameras.
Option 1 Buy a Cannon HV-40 ( HDV )and stick with the old work flow.
Option 2 Buy a AMD Phenom II x4 3.0 Ghz 6 GiG ram Win 7 64 bit and Buy an inexpensive AVCHD Cam? Will that AMD do the job? IF so will I be able to mix AVCHD and HD in the same session?
Does Vegas Studio even take advantage of the 64 Bit, I can’t really tell from the web site. In Vegas Pro it refers to 64 and 32 bit flow but studio says nothing about that.
Thank You so much in advance!

OK So the lack of response inspired me to purchase an i7 2600 3.4 gig
with 8 gigs ram, Win home premium 64 bit ( which I may upgrade to pro ). I plan on using 3 SATA drives, 2 for PB of a and b roll, one to render to.
If I am using this system will AVCHD and HDV be usable? ( Few effects, some titles )
I still can’t clearly judge if Vegas STUDIO takes advantage of 64bits. ( will it use the full 8 gigs of Ram? )
I haven’t bought my second camera yet, I was going to purchase a tapeless AVCHD but I could get a Cannon HV40 and stick to tape is editing is going to be miserable. Should the project settings be hdv or AVCHD?
Thank you so much for your time, and expertise!

    Hi Brad,

I can’t imagine Sony’s software not being written with a 64-bit architecture since the Vegas Pro software has been 64 bit since version 8 or 9 I believe.

I don’t know much about the AMD processors, but the i7 is a good choice. In just a few weeks, Sony will be releasing their Vegas Pro software which is going to take full advantage of GPU acceleration.

As for the AVD settings question… no idea. Sorry. Hopefully someone else will respond. I use simple point-and-shoot digital cameras to record videos in their HD resolution and then just use them in Vegas Pro without any issues. My default project size is 720×480, but if the footage from a digital camera can shoot in higher HD resolutions, I set the project settings to that.
