  • AMD Phenom II performance with Nividia cards

A while back I posted specifications and performance for my new editing bay based on the latest family of x6 processors by AMD. I promised to post results once I tested a CUDA enabled Nvidia graphics card, here goes.

    Astoundingly
no matter what I throw at the Nvidia Geforce 450 card for an AVC render it performs 33% slower than using the embedded ATI Radeon video controller. The Nvidia card is a breathtaking performer for PC games so I’m certain it’s not the card.

Have since removed the Nvidia and am using the embedded ATI Radeon graphics and couldn’t be happier.

    Cheers

can you post some rendering times for encodeing Sony AVC codec, and cineform if you have it…

    Thanks…

I have done extensive testing with HD, RAM Drives, Intel v. AMD…

I found unless you’re running Uncompressed video, HD speeds mean nothing…

Clock for Clock, AMD is the Same as Intel, quad core seems to be the most efficient.

    Good luck

I’m a first time builder and based on Bill’s posts am probably going to choose AMD Penom II. Bill chose 1055T. Was the 1090T available at the time? If not, would it be a better choice today?
Also, looks like I’ll start out with no graphics card as the onboard graphics are better. This assumes I’m understanding your post correctly (I’ll only use this PC for Vegas and Adobe Lightroom).
    Thanks, Robert

I had a price point in mind when I built my system. Foregoing the most expensive processor was essentially a free hard-drive. System has been, well phenomenal:-)

    Good luck
