Amazingly Cool Stuff!
So I’m doing this 3-minute video of the life of a courier bag for a credit union, and I animate this courier bag like a cartoon and I animate this guy walking on and taking the bag away.
This client has no money, so I don’t have a lot of time to do the animations, but I also want something that I’m not ashamed of that I can show other clients.
So how did I animate this guy walking in?
1. The client gave me photos from the side of their VP.
2. Cut out legs and arms of VP in Photoshop ala Monty Python and save as pieces
3. Bring pieces in Motion and move anchor points of legs and arms to the joints so they will rotate off the shoulder/hip
Here’s where it gets good
4. Apply Oscillate behavior to the Rotation parameter of the legs and arms
5. Adjust the Amplitude/Phase/Speed in real time as I watch them animate
6. Apply Throw behavior to the entire Layer to have it walk across the screen.Amazing! It took me 20 minutes to figure this out and do the whole thing. I have a guy walking across the screen, in 20 minutes. Wonderful.
BTW, I ended up using After Effects to create the animated mouth of the cartoon courier bag. I have a VO track of the character voice. I used an Expression to have AE automatically animate my mouth artwork based on the amplitude of the VO track. I saved each section out, with audio, as a QT movie (Animation with Alpha) and brought it into Motion and it works like a champ.
This is such a fun job to have. I’m so glad I didn’t go into real estate appraisal two years ago. 🙂
