AMA Linked MXF files-video and audio out of Sync
. Problem with P2 MXF files being brought into MC 5 using AMA.
The footage was shot on a Panasonic HVX 200 Camcorder, transferred off the P2 card using a reader and then put on a PC hard drive. I copy the video and Audio MXF files off the hard drive. It’s not possible to bring the camcorder home with these files so I had to copy them there.I then created a new project, new bins and AMA linked the MXF files. When I play them in the source the audio seems fine but the video is slow so that the two are not in sync.
Other MXF exercise files I got with a training book play fine.
Appreciate any ideas what might be the problem.

In my experience, AMA has been touch-and-go with P2. I’m sure they’ll work through the bugs. I would simply turn AMA off and import P2 clips to bin (maybe Avid will one day allow you to do both without restarting the app)You are still “linking” as opposed to importing media. I do believe the sync issue is with the AMA function as we have had it even with QT files – AMA still needs work.

Ricky Barrow can I import from a P2 Card reader or do I need the camera? I tried importing the MXF from an external hard drive but the files did not import.

You just need the file/folder structures intact – these can be on a hard drive, P2 Card via a card reader, or the P2 card in a camera (in my experience I have done all 3 but I prefer to have content folders copied to a hard drive directly from the P2 card(s). Then within the Avid project you will need to turn off AMA and restart the application, go to “File”, “Import P2 Clips to Bin”, and point to the contents folder – if you don’t have that file structure you can try pointing to the folder containing video/audio folders, or directly to the video folder.

Yes, thank you that solved the problem. I did not know you could use File/ImportP2/clips to bin and then search your hard drive for the contents folder. It loads both video and audio. I thought that was for only importing from a P2 reader.
Going back to link through AMA, there out of sync again so you had the right answer.
