  • Am going to FCP… quick question?

Im a highschool student in TV2 college course. I am going to start doing my own thing, and making videos for my portfolio. I dislike using premiere, i want to go back to using fcp like i did in middleschool.

I cant afford anything too fancy…

    I was going to buy

    Imac
    3.06 ghz core i3 (or 2duo)
    4gig ddr3 ram
    750gb HDD

    But i am leaning towards

    Macbook
    2.24ghz core 2 duo
    4 gig ddr3 ram
    500 gb hdd.

For videos 5 mins or under, in 1080… I know the Imac will do it (friend has the same one, does all the stuff no problem…) But i was curious if it would be okay on the macbook pro.

I would love something portable, but the speed is a big downgrade. They are both same price… Input?

The only MacBook you can compare with an iMac now, is the 17″ and that is in terms of connectivity (SxS slot), not about power.
I wouldn’t buy that MBP. Whenever you’ll need to render, the iMac will do it in half the time.
If you can afford the i5/i7

I edit on my MBP. HD. Its not as fast as my desktop system, but I haven’t had any real issues. I run FCS3 and Adobe CS4 on it. 2.53ghz with 4g of ram. I would think it should suit you, especially if you want portability. I do run all of my media on an external drive via firewire 800. Again, not optimal, but it works for me.

    Good luck,
