Always need to render
I loaded minidv tapes into my final cut pro 5. I always need to render the clips when I put them in my sequence. The video and sequence are NTSC DV/DVCPRO

check to make sure all your capture settings and your sequence settings are the same….if not, when you drag clips into your timeline, they come in unrendered. Hope this helps.
