Always another render
Am I correct the PPro doesn’t use the renders that were previously done for an export? eg. I’ll pre-render a timeline with a variety of effects and get green line indicator for the length of the timeline. I go to export and rather than the encoder using that render, it seems to have to re-render everything again. Now I realize it needs to potentially transcode, but why wouldn’t it transcode what was previously rendered rather than start from scratch? Make sense?

Premiere Pro call this smart renders…
Depends on the codec used in the sequence for fx rendering and if that same matching codec is used for exporting your master.
ProRes and XDCam Variants offer use preview renders on export…
not sure of others…

I believe this is also dependent on the wrapper as well as codec.
We use XDCAM HD422 in-house and export to .mov files. Premiere always re-renders for us even though we select ‘use previews’ which we have set to the same XDCAM codec.
If we exported to .MXF files we would get much faster exports as ‘use previews’ actually works.
