  • Alternative to Card Dance?

Posted by Mano Lis on November 23, 2007 at 3:04 pm

    Hi,

Is there a more powerful alternative
to card dance that supports depth of field
    motion blur and real 3d?
    Maybe a plug-in that I can buy?

    Thanks,
    Manolis

Not that emulates Card Dances many other features such as being able to use grayscales for mapping almost every animation parameter.
But Digital Anarchy’s set of 3D tools is remarkably cool.

Card Dance is a particle system, not a 3D system, so it renders relatively rapidly. ONce you start placing CD’s dozens or hundreds of cards into true 3D space (with blur and DOF and lights), you increase your rendering times explosively into exponential territory. A ten second render in 2d can take days to render in 3d.

Trapcode’s Echo Space makes use of many of these attributes via the AE 3D compositing engine, and allows for good control over the positioning and geometrics of the many layers required to create that same look.

Instead of taking one layer and splitting it into cards, Echo Space deals with independent layers, so the precomping required to get the unified look will be the tough thing.

    Good Luck,
