Alternate Audio Capture Method?
I would like to capture audio from video using my MAudio Profire at 24/96, rather than the 24/48 through Kona LSe. The capture drifts from sync – about 25 frames over the course of 60 minutes. I assume it’s clock/sync issue.
Is there a way to lock the audio capture to picture or to reference (I have Horita BSG50 providing sync to Kona & Beta deck)? The Profire can sync to an external word clock, but only via S/PDIF. Can I use AES/EBU out from Kona for clock?

what are you outputting to for master?

Master to DVD for short-term, but archiving for HD repurpose, hence desire for 96k capture.

Client undecided at this point – they just want to go home with a drive-full of uncompressed 10-bit video & 96k audio.

You can’t modify an LSe capture preset to do a 96k capture? You can with Kona 3.

Yeah, I change the capture so the audio’s coming from the ProFire @ 96K. The trouble is that in the captured file the audio drifts from sync – about 1 frame every 75 seconds.

As it’s not locked. Why not just capture with the Kona and skip the outboard converter?

So in case anyone else interested in this issue, I found the key for my situation.
There are devices that will lock to SMPTE reference and create a word clock for audio gear. A couple of devices came up on my trolling (mostly on gearslutz.com) which will slave to house reference or can generate SMPTE reference. Not sure yet which will operate locked to video AND generate clocks faster than 48k.
Rosendahl’s Nanosync & Nanonsync HD (which can generate tri-level sync for HD)
