    Good Day:
I’m trying to fluctuate the sound on the Sony Vegas timeline by connecting points. Does anyone know how this is done. At the moment I’m just splitting sound and bringing down the volume which really
stifles me creatively. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’m not entirely sure I understand what you want to do, but have you found the Volume Envelope yet? Right-click a BLANK part of an audio track and select Insert/Remove Envelope > Volume (or press Shift+V with an audio track selected).

    > Right-click a BLANK part of an audio track and select Insert/Remove Envelope > Volume (or press Shift+V with an audio track selected)

…then, double-click on the Volume Envelope to add a point. You can now drag this point up and down to adjust the volume. If you just want to affect a small section you will need 4 points. One to hold the existing volume, a second to determine the new volume, a third to determine how long the new volume should last, and a fourth to return to the previous volume. Just double-click wherever you need more volume points.

Then there is also audio Pan (Shift+P)
Which let you adjust the audio to come from the left or right.
I’m i correct in saying so John?

Yup, Pan and Volume are two envelopes that you could use to alter the audio over time.

    Hi

I want to turn the audio volume up ie peoples voices, noises etc at one point in the time line so that you can hear it above the music track.
I have figured out to add an envelope and points and raise the volume but no matter what try it you cant hear it.
I guess there must be some thing in the settings that i have overlooked, does anyone have any ideas or experience with this?
I have been searhing this forum for the last few days but have had no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

It’s always best to start a new thread then you have a new question and are not the original poster so that more people see it and are likely to respond.

A volume envelope alone may not be enough if the voices are recorded too low. Right-click on the vocal event (audio) and select Switches | Normalize. This will raise the highest peak to be 0dB FS. Then use a volume envelope to adjust further. You could always place a volume envelope on the music track and lower it when people are talking. (this is referred to as “ducking” the music))

Hi John thanks for your reply,

I tried both things that you mentioned but no joy. The Audio level is pretty reasonable if played normally ie; i have it at about -26db so that you cant hear the background noise but anything above that and it can get really lond. Yet still even when i put the volume right up on the evvelope it doesnt change at all despite the volume control physically moving as it hits the “non” event. I’ve tried putting in points and raising that in each direction aswell.
With the audio “ducking” on the musics track it won’t let me creat an evelope that afftects just one segamat of the track like with the audio one, it just raises the entire track which i dont want. Either way with being unable to hear the voice volume without the sound evelope working correctly i guess that this may not be effective?

    Any thoughts?

lso by mistake i dragged the sound segamant that i want to raise the voulme of, and dragged it in to the music track which worked in the sense that i could hear the sound perfectly but at the expense of the music.

any further ideas would be amazing as i am at the end of my wits with this becauuse i’m just about to finish my project but have been stuck on this for 5 days now, ha ha.

    Thanks again
