    Hi all,

So I’ve got a scene in my film with two actors exchanging a thin stack of paper. Actor A snatches it from B, reads-reads, whips it back to B again, all in one frame. I’d like to add a specific jpeg (or whatever) image to the top blank/white page visible most of the time. I’ve got the raw basics of motion tracking and overlays down, but can’t grab a good track. Are there any advanced tips on tracking some very unstable motion like this? Is it possible to bend or wrinkle the image so that it matches the shape of the paper in the live footage? Any and all advice you’ve got on this would be greatly appreciated. Or better yet pointing me to a tutorial? Thanks in advance!

A trick for the olden days was to bring 30 fps footage into a 60 fps sequence and make each field a frame. Now you have twice the temporal resolution.

Tracking is not easy under the best circumstances and rough footage makes the situation far more difficult. Your paper offers no discreet corners that can be solidly tracked so you will do lots of hand-tweaking to dozens of points that go off track. Can’t be helped. Unless, of course, you reshoot with motion tracking in mind. Use tracking dots o your props.

A big part of trying to do this after it’s been shot is lowering your expectations.
