  • altering exposure during digitisation

I’m digitising from a Z5 to Premiere Pro and I’m finding that a shot which looks properly exposed on the camera appears one or two stops overexposed once it’s in Premiere. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to adjust exposure during the digitisation process or is it a matter of correcting the clip once it’s been uploaded? Thanks in advance for any help.

What you get while capturing are 0s and 1s, exactly what’s on the tape, so there is not way to alter it on the fly.

So again, you should be getting the same exposure on Premiere.

A couple of things, and the first obvious one: Don’t compare your Premiere display to the camera LCD, neither are accurate unless properly calibrated.

You may also have a graphics card that is overriding your display levels.

Use the Premiere color bars to a least get a proper brightness calibration.

Use one of the effects under Adjust or Image control. The built in wave form monitor may give you a clue as to whether the image is indeed over exposed or not. As would a real TV or calibrated monitor playing actual video HDMI or composite.
