I have passes that were rendered out of a 3D app and I’m building the shot in AFX. I made a precomp to build everything, and I have a second comp where I’m using the alpha pass as a track matte to knock out the black background on the precomp. It works, but I get a 1 pixel black edge around my fill layer. The only pass that comes with it’s own alpha is the beauty pass, and it’s a straight alpha (not premultiplied). If I set it to premultiplied (black), the black edge is less prominent but it’s still there.

So the question is how to get rid of the pesky thin black edge around the subject.

    Thanks,
    Dustin

    try effects>channels>remove color matting…

if you are using a matte layer as a track matte, you will first need to pre-comp that layer and the track matte, then apply remove color matting.

if the matte layer and the layer you are matting are the same size, you could just use effects>channels>set matte to take the luminance of the matte layer for transparency, then apply remove color matting.

of course if all else fails, you can use simple choker to shrink the matte a bit (again, if using a track matte layer, you’ll need to pre-comp those first).

i’m assuming that you set that in the interpret footage settings…. if so, that is a little strange, it usually works quite well. you can try the remove color matting effect, but there may be something wrong with your matte…

Thanks Kevin, I’ll give those things a try.
