I’ve created numerous key-able transitions, in HD.

I use Apple’s Motion, and I have a basic lens flare act as the transition so a TD could cut underneath the lens flare.

My problem: How can you render out a separate travel matte/alpha channel for the lens flare, and all, to look good keyed?

I’ve tried every which way I can think of, and nothing works.

I can send a sample Motion file if that helps.

Does the Lens Flare itself in Motion have a alpha channel?

Like everything in Motion it’s a floating object over black (or “nothing”).

    Everything else has an alpha.

What I’m trying to find out is, what is the alpha values of the pixels you don’t want? That changes everything.

Here’s a low rez sample of the project.

I want to render out SEPARATE Fills and mattes that have unmultiplied fills, so they can be supplied as separate files top be can re-composited in either a non-linear or linear room.

The lens flare is the standard one that ships with Motion.

Alright, I just recreated the Lens Flare, and it looks great! I even exported it out and did a composite mode “Travel Matte-Luma” in Final Cut to verify that the Luma Matte would work. It did except for the furthest part of the line in the flare. I think it would be easier to e-mail you the project file instead of explaining what I did. Should I send it to the address on your main page?

That works for me too, as an Animation file (embedded in the QT)

But I need the matte separate.

I’ll e-mail it as soon as I’m done with this post. The top group is to create the layer for the Luma. Disable it and enable the Raw group for the original Lens Flare. Best of luck with your project.
