I have an animation with a screen in a moving about in a 3d environment. It passes infront and behind lots of different elements.

I want to set an alpha channel for the render it but don’t want to precompose to do it as the comp is too complicated with lots of lights and shadows etc. I’m wondering if there is a way to ‘force’ a layer to be an alpha channel. I thought there was a way using the old set matt or set channel effects but I can’t seem to get them to work. Is it a mode thing?

Also is there a way to render out an animation with an alpha channel attached but not lose the RGB info where the alpha channel is positioned. I used to do this with PSD files as it was a good way of giving an editor the choice to key something out or not.

I’ve always found the way track matts work since 5.5? a little frustrating. It would be great if there was some system more like photoshop where you could simply turn the alpha info on or off. MAybe there is and I don’t know about it

    Thanks in advance

    Danny
